Cody has always thought an ice cream would be a great business. Our first milk cow, Josie, produced so much milk that we started making raw milk ice cream to sell at WY Fresh Farmstand, under the WY Food Freedom Act. People loved the ice cream! Shortly thereafter, Cody and Coralee, were able to get into Penn State’s highly competitive Ice Cream Short Course in January of 2024. It supplied them with a wealth of information in food science, equipment, manufacturing processes and the ice cream industry as a whole.
It has been amazing to see how God has opened doors; providing the resources, people and direction we’ve needed at each step in the process. Equipment purchases, such as the batch freezer and hardening cabinet, were funded when someone called and wanted to buy one of our pickups. Concerns about establishing and licensing a commercial kitchen were quickly resolved when a friend pointed us to one that had recently become available in Burns. Premium, clean label, pasteurized ice cream base mix and natural flavors, were imperative to our business model and we were able to find two companies that supply exactly what we needed. When we needed help making ice cream after the kids went back to school, a good friend was suddenly available to work with us. It’s been amazing to watch the pieces fall into place. Our community has been extremely supportive and loves our ice cream. The growth of our business has been a bit of a whirlwind but so fun!
We make real true ice cream-honest goodness; no preservatives, additives or artificial flavors or colors. Real true ice cream means simply pure ice cream, just like homemade with real natural ingredients you can trust.
We have made over 20 flavors since the beginning. Several of our flavors are seasonal so we are rotating and bringing new flavors out. It’s hard to know what the most popular flavor is but some of the favorites are cookie dough, butter pecan, coffee, huckleberry and cherry.
We start with a custom made plain base mix containing real natural ingredients. We then add natural flavors and colors to carefully handcraft each batch. It runs through the batch freezer, which turns the liquid into a soft serve consistency. Then we add any inclusions such as homemade cookie dough or fruit. It is then hand packed into small containers and placed in the hardening cabinet which preserves the small ice crystals and contributes to the smooth, creamy texture of the final product. We package the delicious ice cream into cups, pints, quarts, half gallons, gallons and 3 gallon tubs.
We have several locations- Texas Trail Market and Bluffs Bakery in Pine Bluffs; Lucky Buffalo Farmstand near the TA; Home on the Range Meat Processing near Sapp Bros; WY Fresh Farmstand and Town Square Marketplace in Cheyenne; Bear Mountain Beef near LaGrange and we just got the contract to supply Big Hollow Food Coop in Laramie.
We are open every Tuesday from 3:30-7pm for "Two Scoop" Tuesdays! We also open the scoop shop occasionally for Special Scoop Days to support community events such as Burns Day, craft fairs, ball games and corporate/non profit meetings.
